Porsche began to take orders for Porsche 718 sports cars with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine in combination with a PDK robotic transmission. Now, for a surcharge of $ 3,200-3,700, a preselective gearbox can be equipped with all the “track” models of the 718 family – the Cayman GT4, Boxster Spyder, Cayman GTS 4.0 and Boxster GTS 4.0 .
Let us remember, that sports versions of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder with an atmospheric 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engine (420 hp, 420 Nm) appeared in the model line a year ago. Initially, “track” modifications were offered exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. Now, fans of the brand have a choice.
At Porsche, the expansion of the line of versions of the “track” models of the 718 family was timed to coincide with the 2021 model year. To date, orders for the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder, and 718 GTS with a 4.0-liter engine paired with a 7-speed robotic gearbox with a double-clutch are accepted only by the North American branch of Porsche, but soon this option will most likely appear in the European Porsche configurator.
By the way, Porsche has not yet revealed how much the dynamic performance of the 718 family has improved with a 4.0-liter aspirated in combination with a preselective robot. Presumably, from a standstill to 100 km / h, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder will be able to accelerate 0.2–0.3 seconds faster, that is, the starting spurt will take 4.1–4.2 seconds. Modifications of GTS 4.0 will be 0.1 seconds slower.
Prices for new items in the USA are already known: for the 718 family in GTS 4.0 the surcharge for the “robot” will be $ 3,730, for the more extreme 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder the increase will be $ 3,220.
In North America, the first Porsche 718 PDK robotic drivetrain will appear at dealerships in the first quarter of next year. Probably in Europe, sales will begin earlier.
