BMW, together with Toyota, has created a new hydrogen power plant, which has a capacity of 374 horsepower.
The new hydrogen plant, which has zero emissions, is called i Hydrogen NEXT. It is known that development testing will begin only in 2022, and the first experimental model will be the BMW X5 crossover.
The new BMW i Hydrogen NEXT hydrogen power unit will be based on the fifth-generation eDrive electric motor with a backup battery, fuel cell, and voltage converter. Hydrogen itself will be in two tanks under a pressure of 700 bar, where it is possible to pump up to 6 kg of gas. The full filling of the tank will take from 3 to 4 minutes.
The maximum power of the new power unit will be 275 kW, which is similar to 374 hp. The electrochemical generator, which is part of the fuel cell, uses a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen as fuel, while the only emission from the car will be water vapor. The production version of the hydrogen-powered BMW will appear around the second half of this decade. You can watch more about BMW i Hydrogen NEXT on Youtube channel DPCcars
