Apple CarKey will be the first to be received by BMW models.
Apple has released a new operating system for the iPhone – iOS 14. Among other things, it has a new option – CarKey, which will allow you to use your smartphone as a car key. The first to receive this development is BMW cars.
To unlock the car, you will need to bring the iPhone to the door handle and confirm your identity using the Touch ID, fingerprint scanner, or through the Face ID face scanner. And to turn on the car’s engine, the driver will need to put the smartphone on a wireless charge.
The owner can use the smartphone key or transfer access via iMessage to family members or friends: it will be possible to create up to 5 digital virtual copies of the key. The Apple CarKey option will be available for the 15 BMW models that will be released after July 1 of this year. Among them are BMW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 series, as well as BMW X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M, M5, M8 and Z4.
