The new generation BMW 7-Series will be available to customers not only with gasoline, diesel and hybrid units. On the eve it became known that the most powerful modification of the novelty will become a wholly electric car.
This information was told by BMW Chairman Oliver Zipse at the annual press conference. At the same time, the top manager added that all versions of the model will be based on a single architecture, and the top and most powerful 7-Series will be completely electric.
The main thing in this news is not even the fact of launching a fully electric 7-Series on the market, but the fact that it will become the most powerful in the family. There is no information yet whether such a modification will bear the name i7.
Let us remember that the most productive 7-Series of the current generation is the M760i modification, which is driven by a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12. The power of this unit is 585 hp. and 850 Nm. This sedan is able to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds, the maximum speed is limited at around 250 km / h.
The future electric flagship will receive comparable dynamics or even turn out to be a little faster. According to preliminary data, the next generation of the top-end BMW 7–Series will receive a battery with a capacity of up to 120 kW / h, which is capable of providing a range of about 700 km. The manufacturer plans to produce a more affordable version with a battery of 80 kW / h.
Test prototypes of the electric 7-Series in the back of the current model have repeatedly come across photo spies on public roads. But before the premiere of the new generation of the flagship of the Bavarian company, there is still a lot of time left, presumably, the novelty will be shown in mid-2022.
